Which passages from the speech support this claim by providing evidence?

Select all that apply!!

A) And yet the same revolutionary beliels for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe-the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God

B) But neither can two great and powerful groups of nations take comfort from our present course-both sides overburdened by the cost of modern weapons, both rightly alarmed by the steady spread of the deadly atom. yet both racing to alter that uncertain balance of terror that stays the hand of mankind's final war

C) Let both sides, for the first time, formulate serious and precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms, and bring the absolute power to destroy other nations under the absolute control of all nations

D) In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty

Answers

Answer:

The inaugural ceremony is a defining moment in a President’s career, and no one knew this better than John F. Kennedy as he prepared for his own inauguration on January 20, 1961. He wanted his address to be short and clear—devoid of any partisan rhetoric and focused on foreign policy. He began constructing the speech in late November, working with friends and advisers. While his colleagues submitted ideas, the speech was distinctly the work of Kennedy himself. Aides recount that every sentence was worked, reworked, and reduced. It was a meticulously crafted piece of oratory that dramatically announced a generational change in the White House and called on the nation to combat “tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself.”

Kennedy wrote his thoughts in his nearly indecipherable longhand on a yellow legal pad. The climax of the speech and its most memorable phrase, “Ask not what your country can

do for you—ask what you can do for your country,” was honed down from a thought about sacrifice that Kennedy had long held in his mind and had expressed in various ways in campaign speeches.

Answers

This comparison shows he feels that he has not paid for the mistakes he has made, but that this will not go unpunished because life will charge him until he pays. This shows that for many years he felt guilty and responsible for what happened to his friend.

We can arrive at this answer because:

"The Seventh Man," tells the story of a man who was troubled by an experience he had as a child. This experience occurred when he watched his friend being dragged by a large wave, which took him to the sea, causing the child to drown. The Seventh Man was scared by the situation and couldn't do anything to help his friend.

His lack of attitude to help his friend is seen as a responsibility he rejected. He believes his friend's death is his fault, a mistake he made that must be paid for if he and his friend are to find peace.

- the Tweed Ring in New York
- the Credit Mobilier Scandal
- Black Friday

Answers

Answer:

Black Friday

The Gold Ring was formed by Jay Gould and James Fisk.  The then president  of the United States, Ulysses  S. Grant, made an effort to stabilize the US dollar,  boost the economy after the hits of the civil war, and also to pay off the national debt caused by the war. He tried to do this by selling treasury gold every week. The first step he took to get a grip on the economy was to sign the Public Credit Act, which enabled citizens to have their bonds repaid in gold or the equivalent and so get a more secure circulation of “sound money “. Moreover,  president Grant placed the very talented George Boutwell in charge of the United States Treasury and he started selling gold on a weekly basis to buy US wartime bonds.  At the same time he improved the tax collecting methods to avoid counterfeiting and was able to keep the gold price and the money supply level artificially low. Jay Gould and James Fisk infiltrated in the social circles of  president Grant to receive confidential information of the selling of gold. They plotted to stop the president from selling the gold weekly, so that the price of gold could rise again. They also fed the president with false premonitions that the gold selling would harm farmers. When they thought that they found a profitable price to buy gold, they did so, in order to sell the gold again later for a higher price and so increase their wealth.  But the president came to know about their foul scheme and he ordered more gold to be sold on this particular Friday ,24th of September 1869 ,called “ Black Friday’’ and in this way the price of gold went so low that Gould and Fisk lost most of their money.

The Dawes Acts (including civil service reforms)

The 1887 Dawes Act, gave the authority to the president of the United States to allot Native American tribal land to individual Native Americans. If they accepted these allotments and would go live separately from their tribes, they would be granted the US citizenship.  The creator of the act was Massachusetts senator Henry Laurens Dawes. The Dawes Act was a way to transfer tribal and communal ownership of land into individual ownership, and also to give non-Native Americans the chance to purchase these lands. In 1891 the Dawes Act was amended, then in 1898 into the Curtis Act and then again in 1906 by the Burke Act. For decades after these Acts, the Tribal communities have sold a great part of their communal land to non-Native Americans and in this way the government managed to destroy their tribal way of living . The aim of the government was to open the Indian lands for  European- American settlers to farm and make way for railroads. Through this Act,  tribal owned land in America decreased from 138 million acres in 1887 to only 48 million acres in 1934. The Dawes act had an impact on the gender roles and the social structure in the Native American community because to be able to receive land, the women had to be officially married. Before, the women had control over property and descent because of the matrilineal tribal society.  Now the men had to go out working in the fields while the women had to do domestic chores. The original plan, concocted by Henry Dawes to create respectable farmers according to the European –American model has failed and left the tribal community as mere survivors of destruction.

Explanation:

The underlined phrase is an example of a half rhyme. The correct option is c.

What is half rhyme?

Half rhyme can also be referred to as “imperfect rhyme” or “slant rhyme” because the stressed syllables in a word’s ending consonants match even though the word does not create an actual rhyme. For example, the words “hold” and “bald” have the same strong ending consonant sounds but the vowels do not work together to create a perfect rhyme.

However, what this similar ending consonant sound does is create the illusion of a rhyme where an actual rhyme is not practical or necessary. Half rhyme can also use the same vowel sound in each word but different ending consonants. For example, “rush” and “must” have the same vowel sounds but end differently, preventing a full rhyme from occurring but still feeling somewhat of a rhyme because of the strong vowel sound.

Half rhyme is not a full rhyme, it is a useful poetic device that helps manipulate how words are perceived.

Mom suggested. "You know that stack he sent you is already addressed and stamped just waiting for you to write a short note. I'm sure he'd love to hear from you." Conner stared blankly at the blank TV screen. He was not afraid of technology, but his parents' ridiculous decision to reduce the family's "screen time" was turning him into a reluctant Luddite. He meandered down the hall past his little brother's room. Tater Bug, clad in a knight's helmet and red cape from the treasure chest that held costumes from years of Halloween escapades, wielded a foam sword over his head, yelling "death to tyrants!" as he charged a pile of stuffed animals. Conner sighed and turned down the hall, jealous that his little brother could still play with such imaginative abandon. Tater Bug wasn't even aware of the TV dilemma plaguing the family. Finally, Conner went out the back door and saw Tater Bug's soccer ball on the patio. He nudged it with his foot, and it began a slow roll into the yard. With a couple of quick steps, Conner drew back his foot and gave the ball an angry kick that sent it bouncing off the fence with a loud bang into mom's flowerbed. Conner considered that writing postcards might be safer, but it felt good to attack the ball. "I want to play!" Tater Bug yelled, running out the back door with his arms outstretched like a champion soaring above tall buildings with the red cape flying behind him.
