Answer:

Explanation:
It was Friday morning and the Rev. Henry Maxwell was trying to finish his Sunday morning sermon. He had been interrupted several times and was growing nervous as the morning wore away, and the sermon grew very slowly toward a satisfactory finish.
"Mary," he called to his wife, as he went upstairs after the last interruption, "if any one comes after this, I wish you would say I am very busy and cannot come down unless it is something very important."
"Yes, Henry. But I am going over to visit the Kindergarten and you will have the house all to yourself."
The minister went up into his study and shut the door. In a few minutes he heard his wife go out, and then everything was quiet.
He settled himself at his desk with a sigh of relief and began to write. His text was from I Peter ii. 21.
"For hereunto were ye called; because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that ye should follow his steps."
He had emphasized in the first part of the sermon the Atonement as a personal sacrifice, calling attention to the fact of Jesus' suffering in various ways, in His life as well as in His death. He had then gone on to emphasize the Atonement from the side of example, giving illustrations from the life and teachings of Jesus to show how faith in the Christ helped to save men because of the pattern or character He displayed for their imitation. He was now on the third and last point, the necessity of following Jesus in His sacrifice and example.
He had put down "Three: Steps; What are they?" and was about to enumerate them in logical order when the bell rang sharply. It was one of those clock-work bells, and always went off as a clock might go if it tried to strike twelve all at once.
Henry Maxwell sat at his desk and frowned a little. He made no movement to answer the bell. Very soon it rang again; then he rose and walked over to one of his windows which commanded the view of the front door.
A man was standing on the steps. He was a young man, very shabbily dressed.
"Looks like a tramp," said the minister. "I suppose I'll have to go down and --"
He did not finish his sentence but he went downstairs and opened the front door.
There was a moment's pause as the two men stood facing each other, then the shabby-looking young man said:
"I'm out of a job, sir, and thought maybe you might put me in the way of getting something."
"I don't know of anything. Jobs are scarce." replied the minister, beginning to shut the door slowly.
"I didn't know but you might perhaps be able to give me a line to the city railway or the superintendent of the shops, or something," continued the young man, shifting his faded hat from one hand to the other nervously.
"It would be of no use. You will have to excuse me. I am very busy this morning. I hope you will find something. Sorry I can't give you something to do here; But I keep only a horse and a cow and do the work myself."
The Rev. Henry Maxwell closed the door and heard the man walk down the steps. As he went up into his study he saw from his hall window that the man was going slowly down the street, still holding his hat between his hands. There was something in the figure so dejected, homeless, and forsaken, that the minister hesitated a moment as he stood looking at it. Then he turned to his desk and with a sigh began the writing where he had left off.
He had no more interruptions, and when his wife came in two hours later the sermon was finished, the loose leaves gathered up and neatly tied together, and laid on his Bible all ready for the Sunday morning service.

Read the passage and study the image and caption from Sugar Changed the World.
The interior of a cotton mill factory in Manchester, England, in the 1800's. Women and girls are operating the machinery.
Caption: The first factories were places like this cotton mill in Manchester, England.
All over England, in sooty cities such as Manchester and Liverpool, when the factory whistle blew, workers would set down their presses and file out to drink a quick cup of tea sweetened with sugar—usually dipping a piece of bread in the warm drink. Soon a smart manufacturer figured out that this break, and the need for a jolt of sweetness, was an opportunity. English workers were offered sugary cookies and candies—what we call today energy bars—that quick pick-me-up that helped workers to make it through their long shifts.
Starting around 1800, sugar became the staple food that allowed the English factories—the most advanced economies in the world—to run. Sugar supplied the energy, the hint of nutrition, the sweet taste to go with the warmth of tea that even the poorest factory worker could look forward to. Sugar was a necessity.
How does the image support the text?
Answer:
The image shows the process of manufacturing cotton
Explanation:
A. The image shows the process for manufacturing cotton in early factories.

id fair When at last
Answer:
D) Baldwin’s characters become active participants in what they create, while Nappi’s characters separate themselves from their creations.
Explanation: Baldwin's characters are described as "throwing rocks over their shoulders who sprang up like full grown men and women". This states an active participation in creation. Nappi's characters are stated as "sparing themselves from knowing what would be made". Nappi's characters separate themselves from creation, and wanting to create. Therefore the correct option is the last.

Adaptation is associated with the inhabitants of the planet Earth. So, the option that aptly describes the adaptation is Option D.
What is Adaptation?Adaptation is the process of change in which a person or an animal changes itself to suit the environment they are in. Earth has seen many changes and people have adapted themselves to these changes physically and geographically.
In the above excerpt, the contrast between the writings of the two writers suggests that Abe focuses on life created from pre-existing life and the new life will be adapting to the new changes. While in Nappl’s writing it suggests that they do not want to be recognized for their creations.
Hence, adaptation will ensure that the living organisms and their offspring will better adapt to these changes.
Therefore, Option D is correct.

Nicole Frost and Steve Marchand were brother and sister. When their grandfather, Wayne Marchand, was hospitalized for care after a heart attack, the two began to visit him regularly at Laurel Memorial Hospital. One Sunday afternoon, after visiting with their grandfather, Nicole and Steve went to the hospital's cafeteria for a light lunch. A professional foodservice management company operated the cafeteria under contract to the hospital. Nicole and Steve selected their lunches from an assortment of beverages and pre-wrapped sandwiches that were displayed unrefrigerated on a tray in the middle of the cafeteria serving line. The sandwiches were made of ham and cheese, with a salad dressing spread, lettuce, and tomato. Steve paid for the sandwiches, beverages, and some chips; then he and Nicole took a seat in the cafeteria dining room. Approximately four hours after eating lunch, both Steve and Nicole became ill. They determined that they both had suffered a food-borne illness. The two filed suit against the hospital and its contract foodservice management company. When the facts of the case came out, the hospital maintained that, as visitors, not patients, the hospital had no liability toward Nicole and Steve. The foodservice management company operating the hospital cafeteria maintained that its liability extended only to Steve since he was the only guest who in fact purchased food from its service. Management maintained they should not be held responsible for the illness suffered by an individual that they did not actually serve.

In “The Scarlet Ibis,” how does the death of the scarlet ibis foreshadow the death of Doodle?
Answer:
In "The Scarlet Ibis," the bird is compared to Doodle, the narrator's brother. Doodle was born sick, and his family thought he was not going to live long. However, Doodle does survive, even if he is a very frail and unhealthy child. Doodle tries to be like his brother, but he is incapable of it. When he dies, we see that the narrator compares his death to that of the scarlet ibis that died earlier in the story. They were both far from home, weak, and different than everyone else. They also died during a storm. The ibis is also a way for the brother to process Doodle's death and deal with his guilt.
