Read this section from “Counterpoint: Mandatory Volunteer Work Does More Harm Than Good” from Should Volunteering Be Mandatory for Teens? and answer the follow-up questions.
The most compelling argument against making volunteer work a mandatory part of school curriculum is time. Teens today are just too busy to add another stressor to their lives. Let’s take a look at twenty-four hours in the life of a typical teen. Allocate eight hours per day for sleep, eight hours for school (including getting ready and travel time), three hours for homework, two hours for activities such as sports or a part-time job, two hours for dinner and family time, and one hour for socializing. These activities take up all twenty-four hours leaving scarcely any time for volunteer work. Should students have to sacrifice their one hour of socializing per day, or sacrifice an hour of precious family time? These options just don’t make sense as making more demands on teens’ packed schedules can have serious side effects. Teens who are too busy feel tired, anxious, or depressed. Studies show they often have headaches or stomachaches due to stress, missed meals, or lack of sleep and they may fall behind in school, causing their grades to suffer. These drawbacks clearly outweigh the benefits of volunteering.
What is the author’s point of view concerning teenagers and their time?
A. Teens spend time on frivolous things.
B. Teens need better time management skills.
C. Teens have little free time to spare.
D. Teens should have less stress in their lives.

Read this excerpt from "How the World Was Made."
[Buzzard] flew all over the earth, low down near the ground, and it was still soft. When he reached the Cherokee country, he was very tired; his wings began to flap and strike the ground. Wherever they struck the earth there was a valley; whenever the wings turned upwards again, there was a mountain.
How does this incident provoke a decision in the story?
The other animals decide to call Buzzard back to Galun'lati, lest the entire world become mountainous.
Water Beetle decides to bring some mud from under the water to fill in some of the valleys Buzzard created.
The Cherokee decide to settle in the mountainous land Buzzard has created.
The other animals decide to put the sun in the sky so they can better admire what Buzzard has done.
Answer: The other animals decide to call Buzzard back to Galun'lati, lest the entire world become mountainous.
Explanation:
The animals used to stay in Galun'tai which was in the sky. They wanted to move to the earth which the water beetle had brought up from the ocean's bottom. The land was too wet for them though so they went back to the sky.
After some time they then sent the Great Buzzard who flew all over the earth to find land to settle. As his wings created mountains and valleys as stated in the excerpt, the animals became scared that the whole word would become mountainous so they called him back.

think of a person who has caused a positive impact (role model) in your life and for which you would like to interview them and learn more about them. The main idea of conducting this interview is to interact with your guest and establish a conversation that will help you learn more about this person through the questions you ask.
Name of interviewee:
Short description (who is it?)
What impact has this person had on your life?
Why do you consider this person an example to follow?
What information would you like to know / obtain when interviewing this person?
Answer:
Name of interviewee: Rosa Parks
Short Description: Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott.
What impact has this person had on your life: Called "the mother of the civil rights movement," Rosa Parks invigorated the struggle for racial equality when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. Parks' arrest on December 1, 1955 launched the Montgomery Bus Boycott by 17,000 black citizens.
Rosa parks has inspired me by fighting for racial equality, she had not only stood up for herself, but her movement has led to more equality between other dark skinned people and white skinned. Rosa Parks has made the possibility of equality within her time possible, letting me know anyone, not just a male such as Martin Luther King Jr, could achieve this goal.
Why do you consider this person an example to follow: I consider her an example to follow because she, a female, has stood up for what she believes is right. Rosa Parks has taken feminism to the next level, and made sure that the racial barriers crumbled down, making me think that the same thing could still happen this day. She has inspired me.
What information would you like to know/obtain when interviewing this person: When interviewing this person, I'd like to know if there had been any circumstance before where she had been forced to give something up for a white skinned person. And what she had truly wanted to do in that scenario.

The author is giving a direct characterization of Fortunato as a gullible person.
Answer:
The author is giving an direct characterization of the character speaking as an honest person.

Sonnet 130, "If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;", What is being compared to what? Is this a positive or negative comparison?
Answer:
Snow be white could be her skin, and i think it's a negative comparison.
Explanation:
I'm thinking that maybe snow be white can be her skin, meaning her skin is is fair and white like snow, like snow white. Dun means a dull grayish brown color. So they could be saying , if her skin is fair and white like snow then why are her breasts such a dull color. It's most likely a negative comparison. I could be wrong but this is my take on it.
